Hey Ya’ll!
We’re the Lostetter’s.
Yeah… it’s a hard one. [ Lost-stetter ] Sounds like Lost Letter without the L.
We’re a family of 4 from Utah, USA who are currently overlanding through 18 countries from Alaska to Argentina along a route called the Pan American Highway.
We’re also hikers, backpackers and van builders who are now learning how to homeschool and travel full time.
However, more importantly, we’re your guide. We have created this site for you. The whole goal for creating this was to help families get out together in nature to make yourself disconnect to help you reconnect. If you can’t find the answer on a page or post then please, reach out to us. We’re more than happy to help you in any way we can. Just ask.
WHO WE ARE:
OUR STORY:
It all started when a Western Gentleman fell in love with a Southern Belle.
Scott is a master at getting into your head and making you love something as much as he does. Over time, he talked Keri into hiking and backpacking by making her super comfortable in every possible way, until she eventually started loving it more than he does.
Kids came along and of course enhanced their life, but their love for the outdoors didn’t stop. They threw the kids in a pack and headed off to other adventures toting them along and eventually dragging them, and encouraging them along the way.
We were weekend tent campers for years. We took our ’95 Camry Wagon topped with our cargo box everywhere exploring the western mountains and desserts. Our kids have learned how to take naps in our kid carrier pack from 5 months old, so they just grew up being outside in the outdoors.
As our love for the outdoors grew we yearned for more adventures outside.
Our dream was to own a Sprinter Camper Van. No way we could ever afford one. Unless…….. we built our own. So we went for it, and picked Rusty up for $4,500 and turned it into our first camper van.
The phrase “Get up and go” came into it’s own. We could go farther way easier now. Shoot, we could go anywhere. So good ol’ Rusty lit another fire. There was only 1 problem. Coming home. No one ever wanted to go home.
We had another dream. A dream that seemed impossible.
Scott asked Keri. “What if we didn’t have to come home? What if we quit our jobs and traveled the longest road in the world, The Pan American Highway?”
Keri: “Quit our jobs?? Yeah right, no way we could quit our jobs and travel full time.” We were in debt, we lived paycheck to paycheck. There’s just no way.
However, she couldn’t shake the thought… What if we did, what would that feel like?
They eventually figured it out and are now free. Free to spend their time as a family. Free to travel the world.

OUR NEW RIG:
El Gato Gordo: 170 Highroof Mercedes Sprinter Van
We named him El Gato Gordo (The Fat Cat) because that’s exactly what he is. This big guy is our new home we’re getting comfortable with. We did build him ourselves just like Rusty.
